Few things to note:

👉 Isla Solarte is remote, with no roads, no shops, no bars, and no restaurants - everything is accessible by boat.

👉 We live in the jungle. This means wildlife of all kinds, including spiders, scorpions, and snakes. You are unlikely to encounter these creatures but people with phobias should be warned.

👉 Mosquitos, Chitras (no-see-ums), and other flying insects are common at dawn and dusk, please bring bug repellent and long sleeves if you prefer.

👉 Allergy alert: We have 2 dogs, 4 cats, and other animals on the farm.

👉 Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate the vegan diet as most of our meals are meat-based or contain animal products.

👉 Please do not arrive unannounced, we have dogs loose on the property and need to know your arrival time ahead of time.

👉 Transportation to our island costs $10 per person from Bocas Town. We can help you arrange transportation with a boat driver who knows where we are located. Please contact us the day before arrival to help you arrange transportation.

What other volunteers think

These are a few of the testimonials we received from past volunteers.
I traveled to Soul Fire Farm with two of my life long friends. Simply put, this is the best farm that you will find around the area. Emy and Lau set us up in a great cabin for our 4 weeks there and made us feel right at home. The work is very fair, 5 hours a day with breaks from the heat, and ranges from day to day. Some of our tasks included building raised beds, planting in the field, delivering produce to customers, mixing soil, cutting up trees and plants, and many other activities. Lau made us great food everyday and the meals were a great example of how they treated us like family. Their daughter Mia is an excellent cookie chef too. Being right on the ocean was so much fun and there is plenty of free time to go out swimming or on the kayak. Life on this farm never gets old with great views and a fun atmosphere of music playing. On some of our days off, we took the water taxi into town and got to explore the other islands/beautiful beaches. If you are looking for a great adventure and to help one of the nicest families continue to build their farm, look no further. I would go back to Soul Fire Farm without hesitation. Hopefully life brings me back here soon. We all miss life on Isla Solarte and our new friends we made there! This is a special place with even more special people. Don't miss out.
Sincerely,

Clay, Connor, and Ziggy

Staying with this family was a very special time for me that I’ll never forget. Living there, with everything open-air was an incredible treat. The work was more than fair. And the weather, rain, wind, or sun, were all so hearty and wonderfully healing. Lau and Emmy are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people I’ve met, and have created such a beautiful warm home. Their kids are some of the smartest I’ve met and are such a blast to be around. I’m grateful for everything, and honored to have been a part.

I had a great experience at soulfire farm. The family is great, the food is amazing and there is a lot to learn from this way of life. One day i would like to have a place of my own like this and the experience and skills i gained while working at soulfire farm at very valuable for when I go off-grid!
