Description
The Jaboticaba (Myrciaria cauliflora) is a distinctive fruit tree native to Brazil, celebrated for its unusual habit of producing fruit directly on its trunk and large branches, a phenomenon known as cauliflory. The small, glossy, dark-purple to black fruits resemble grapes and have a sweet, slightly tart flavor. They are commonly eaten fresh, or used in jellies, jams, liqueurs, and wines.
This slow-growing tree is prized both for its ornamental value and its fruit. Its smooth, light-brown bark contrasts beautifully with the clusters of white flowers and purple fruits. Jaboticaba trees thrive in tropical climates and prefer rich, well-drained soils with regular moisture and benefit from regular pruning to maintain shape and size.
