Green papayas are known for their nutritional value and are a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, and potassium. They also contain enzymes called papain and chymopapain,  that aid in digestion and are believed to have other health benefits.

How to store

Green papayas should be stored at room temperature until they are ripe. Once they are ripe, they can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days.

Thai Green Papaya Salad Recipe:

This salad can be served as a main dish or as a side dish and can be easily customized to your taste preferences. You can adjust the amount of habanero pepper to your desired level of spiciness, and add more vegetables or herbs if you like.

Ingredients
To roast Pumpkin Seeds
  • Coconut Oil
  • 1/4 cup Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
Optional
  • 1/4 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup Long Beans, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Instructions on how to roast Pumpkin Seeds:
  1. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a small bowl, toss the pumpkin seeds with the coconut oil.
  3. Once the skillet is hot, add the pumpkin seeds to the skillet and spread them in a single layer.
  4. Stir the pumpkin seeds occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  5. Roast the pumpkin seeds for 5-7 minutes or until they are lightly browned and crispy.
  6. Remove the skillet from heat and transfer the pumpkin seeds to a plate lined with a paper towel to cool.
Instruction:
  1. In a large bowl, combine the grated or julienned Green Papaya, chopped Garlic Chives, chopped Habanero Pepper, grated Carrots, and chopped Hierba Buena.
  2. Pour the soy sauce over the Green Papaya mixture and toss to coat evenly.
  3. Add the roasted Pumpkin Seeds, Cherry Tomatoes (if using), Long Beans (if using), and chopped Cilantro (if using) to the salad, and toss to combine.
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Green Papaya Salad!
